Day 1 – Arrival in Sofia & Etropole
Welcome to Bulgaria! Upon arrival at Sofia Airport, you'll begin your journey towards the picturesque mountain town of Etropole, nestled in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains. Surrounded by peaceful forests, your first stop is the historic Etropole Monastery, dating back to the 12th century and renowned for its tranquil atmosphere. A short walk leads to the beautiful Etropole Waterfall, where crystal-clear waters cascade through the lush woodland. After your first taste of Bulgaria's natural beauty, settle into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening preparing for the adventures ahead.
Day 2 – Beklemeto Pass & Troyan Monastery
Today's adventure takes you to the breathtaking Beklemeto Pass, one of the most scenic locations in the Balkan Mountains. Enjoy panoramic mountain views and visit the iconic Arch of Freedom monument before continuing to the famous Troyan Monastery, renowned for its rich history, beautiful frescoes and peaceful atmosphere. The evening offers time to unwind at your spa hotel.
Day 3 – Kalofer, Botev Peak & Raysko Praskalo
Discover the spectacular landscapes of Central Balkan National Park as you travel to Kalofer. Explore the area surrounding Botev Peak, the highest summit in the Balkan Mountains, and enjoy some of Bulgaria's most beautiful eco trails. The highlight of the day is the breathtaking Raysko Praskalo Waterfall, the highest permanent waterfall on the Balkan Peninsula.
Day 4 – Shipka Pass & Kazanlak
Travel through the legendary Shipka Pass and visit the impressive Monument of Freedom, offering unforgettable panoramic views across the mountains. Continue to Kazanlak to discover the UNESCO-listed Thracian Tomb, famous for its remarkably preserved ancient frescoes. During the rose season, you'll also experience the beautiful Rose Valley, internationally known for its world-famous rose oil.
Day 5 – Elena & Blue Rocks Nature Park
Explore the charming town of Elena, one of Bulgaria's most beautiful mountain settlements, where traditional architecture and authentic Bulgarian atmosphere have been preserved for centuries. Later, discover the spectacular Blue Rocks Nature Park with its dramatic rock formations, peaceful forests and scenic walking trails offering breathtaking views.
Day 6 – Vratsa Balkan Nature Park
Spend the day exploring the stunning landscapes of Vratsa Balkan Nature Park, home to impressive limestone cliffs, deep gorges and fascinating caves. Day 7 – Glozhene Monastery & Sofia
Your final day begins with a visit to the spectacular Glozhene Monastery, dramatically perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the Balkan Mountains. Returning to Sofia, you'll discover some of the capital's most iconic landmarks, including Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Vitosha Boulevard and the UNESCO-listed Boyana Church, before your departure with unforgettable memories of Bulgaria's mountains, history and culture. Depart Sofia for your flight back to London, reflecting on a week of mountain adventures and relaxation.
